A very annoying YouTube feature
I'm not sure how long this has been a thing, but YouTube has a feature that annoys the dogdamn piss out of me: automatic dubbing.
I watch a lot of non-English content. Primarily Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Arabic-language content. Part of it is watching for pleasure, part of it is watching for learning's sake. I like to immerse myself in a language I'm studying or improving by listening to it as much as possible. To get acquainted with the sounds (some of which aren't present in English or Spanish, for example) and the cadence. Even if I may not understand an entire sentence in Arabic, I can pick out a few words here and there, for example.
However, these past two months I wanna say, YouTube has been defaulting to a shitty, and I assume AI-generated, English dub. It'll do it automatically. I'll click on a Korean-language video and then a terrible computer-sounding voice will speak. And it's not even well translated or applied, either. I swear. I even let it play once just to test it and the voice didn't even speak for about 20 seconds. Just silence.
It's so annoying. I'll turn it off and then it'll turn itself back on for another video at times. I don't usually bother logging into YouTube, but I imagine there's a system-wide setting for turning it off fully. Seeing as how recommendations when I do log on are a bunch of crap I explicitly told YouTube to now show, I doubt it'd work.
Anyway, I just have to deal with it, I suppose. That or see if there's a browser extension.
